TYPHOON

TYPHOON
(Roy Dianon)

While people in some places of the world take pleasure in roaming around at the shopping malls, swimming in the talk of the town beaches, while some are just sitting down watching video and TV programs. Others are enjoying talking, eating and laughing with the company of immediate families, friends and love ones. While others are seriously on focus doing habitual work. A moment later, a roaring air in the sky quickly makes a forceful strike on nearly houses rooftop, properties, structures and agricultural land.  And the earlier laughter echoed in thin air, suddenly changed into a complete silence, as if their mouth was fastened with lock.

Today’s typhoons are becoming more intense and more frequent, making the planet earth sick. Is the earth’s immune system is out of adjustment that trigger something to happen repeatedly, causing to lose unity on the perfect balance between the oxygen that humans breathe and the carbon dioxide that trees need, and above all, the disturbing behavior of  air circulation above the earth? This air circulation is designed to support life and it works unnoticed as a perfect piece in God’s plan.

In order for a typhoon to develop, it needs warm, moist air as fuel. As the warm, moist air is pulled into the atmosphere, it leaves a low-pressure vacuum in its path. This air is normally taken out from the surrounding environment in all directions and even from the course in which the typhoon is traveling.

But once this warm, moist air continuously reach on top of the cloud mass, nature will develop and transform it into a circling turbulent air (a wind that has a spinning motion). This process is beyond one’s understanding, its extent and substantiated explanation, why nature brings such result.  To make it simpler for a common man to understand: Typhoon = Hot Air + Cold Air + Moisture + Time. Hot air, Cold air, and Moisture are nature’s given. But time here is one of the silent mysteries belong to the divine nature which until now remain too deep for human to understand, yet a silent contributor for the coming into existence of so many typhoons per year.

The desire of man to prove and to understand deeper what makes a typhoon, NASA commissioned the unmanned aerial system to fly and explore it into the eye of a typhoon wall for data gathering and to observe. But to date, the said move cannot explain, why this natural force is so deadly and cruel to destroy lives and properties.

Why do these things happen almost time and again on planet earth?—and why doesn’t God intervene to end it? “Where is God in all this?” Answer: God is always on His throne, in control of everything, and He assures us that He is always there with us, in good times and in tragic times, in times when we feel Him and in times when we don’t feel Him.  And God assures us nothing happens apart from His permission; and that everything happens for a good reason, though the reason may not become clear right away, between periods of doubt about the truth.

For this reason, it is important to realize this lifestyle with guilt of conscience. As things are going well, the heart is overcharged with the cares of this life, what food to eat, dress to wear, gadgets to buy and to satisfy earthly pleasures in life. But in times of difficulty and trouble in life, we seriously and heartily think of God. As it is written, People will continue to "eat, drink and be merry" (Luke 12:19) believing that life will go on without interruption.

Throughout the centuries, God has used the weather to get man’s attention. One example, “And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves hit into the ship, so that it was full of water, and ready to sink. But Jesus was in the bottom of the ship, in deep sleep. His disciples came to him and awoke him out of sleep, saying, Master, save us, or we are lost. Are you not concerned for us? How can you lie sleeping here when we are in such danger? Are our lives are of no value for you?”(Mark 4:37-38)

How easy it can be to complain about all that is going wrong and the difficult circumstances we experience in life. Learn by heart that everybody will experience trials, troubles and crisis in life. There is no way to avoid them (I Pet. 4:12) The problem is, we always fall into the routine of constant complaining about problems and worries. When you find yourself complaining about finances, traffic, flood, typhoon, oil price hike, or whatever other trial you may be experiencing, remember that everything God does and allows is for a reason. Although difficult, it is for a greater good—if you overcome them. It is a fact of life that complaining always of what is going wrong, is a mindset that can put to death the joy, happiness and thankfulness life is supposed to enjoy.

But how can we say thanks in the midst of pain and trouble in life? Take into account, no matter how bad things may become, no matter how tough our circumstances in life, no matter how we look, we will find many things in life for which to be thankful. We will be thankful for the air we breathe at no cost while we are charge with electric and water bill. Can you imagine how much will cost us, since we take our first breath until now, if measured in meter? We will be thankful that we still have an appetite to eat foods, unlike those who have the means, yet only allowed to eat porridge (lugaw) since they cannot digest solid foods properly. An abundant possession of money is of no use on this respect. Remember, the happiest people don’t necessarily have the best of everything in life. They’re just good at making the most of everything that life brings along their way. Misery starts when we look at the missing & overlook the blessings.

When Jesus rebuked the wind, and said to the waves, Peace, be still, the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. (Mark 4: 39). To understand better this miracle that Jesus did, imagine when Jesus said, “Peace, be still!” immediately the angry waves and the strong winds turned into great calm. To illustrate further, have you seen boiling water which instantly turn into frozen water? This made the disciples terrified, and they said one to another, what manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him. Thus, no matter how tough the circumstances the disciples encountered, they find in this tough circumstances to be “thankful” as a result, they were all saved from the danger and threat of death.

There will be more large scale pain and trouble to millions lives in time to come, turning them miserable one cannot imagine.  Moreover, no man knows when his hour will come. For this is God’s warning, the day of death and judgment should come upon us unawares, when we do not expect it, and are not prepared for it. (Luke 21:34).  God’s Word of advice, Watch and pray always. (Luke 21:36). God Bless.
